The purpose of our conversations is to give you guidance and support. I say discussion because our blog is a dialogue. We value your thoughts and ideas. So feel free to share your media experiences.

When we talk about the guidance, you’ll read about the fundamentals of media success. It is my view that without the fundamentals leaders fail in the media.

No fundamentals can lead to executives running away from media opportunities. They avoid the media because they are not sure what to do. They do not know how to use the press to their company’s advantage.

If you feel the same way, it’s not your fault. We get it.

One man’s lost opportunity

One year ago, a new CEO rejected a chance to speak to a leading trade magazine. His food manufacturing company went through a tough five years. Now they’ve turned the corner and have a brilliant story to tell. The director of communications put our company on standby to give the CEO guidance.

The interview did not happen. Why? The CEO made two demands. “Send me the list of questions, and I want editorial control.”

The journalist said “No.”

The CEO was livid when the magazine ran a different article with a competitor!
